Last night, I heard the news that little Rachel Beckwith has passed away.
In case you aren’t familiar, she was critically injured in a 14-car accident in Seattle. She died shortly after being taken off life support.
A typical 9 year old is hoping for a bike, a video game, a pony for their birthday.
Rachel wanted people to donate to charity: water.
Shortly after the accident, her church put out the word that she had been collecting donations to the charity in lieu of gifts for her birthday. She had a couple hundred raised, but was $80 short of her goal. As news spread, she quickly surpassed it by tens of thousands.
charity: water is one of the organizations I’ve elected to highlight for my birthday. They put 100% of donations toward projects in the field. I hope that, like Rachel, you will be moved to provide water to those who need it.
This 9 year old couldn’t be saved. But clean water will save others.
