My Birthday – September 11th

Help me Take Back My Birthday, September 11th, by donating to one of these great organizations making the world a better place.

For most of my life, my birthday was often forgotten as summer friends faded away and classmates didn’t remember as we headed back to school. The main event of note was Pete Rose breaking Ty Cobbs’ all-time hits record in 1985.

September 11, 2001 changed all that. Like many, I watched in horror as planes crashes, buildings fell and far too many lost their lives.

In the years after that tragic day, I have inwardly cringed when asked my birth date. Invariably, it is met with shaking heads and expressions of sympathy.

Ten years later, it’s time to take back my birthday. I want my birthday to be one of hope, not sorrow.

And I need your help.

There are many great organizations doing work that brings hope into the world. Educating children. Researching cancer cures. Rescuing animals. On this site, I will be highlighting a few, and I ask you to celebrate my birthday by making donation. I’ve set up a special birthday donation page for each one. Your gift will go directly to them.

If every friend I have on Facebook gave just $5, we could raise thousands. If you tell your friends, we could raise tens of thousands. Maybe more.

Please help make my birthday, September 11th, the best one of my life.

  2. Thank you, Mary, for such a great effort – my birthday is on 9/11, too, and I truly share your sentiment. I lived in NY for a short while, and part of me crumbled along with the buildings and planes on that dreadful day…

Though I will never forget the senseless destruction and loss of life on that day,
thank you for helping turn our birthday into a day of hope.
